What is Online Video Therapy?

Online video therapy is when mental health services are provided over the internet via video conferencing. It is often also referred to as Telehealth. Given the current pandemic, PDX Therapy Center has adjusted our services so that we can continue to provide quality mental health services while contributing to keeping people safe and healthy. We use a secure platform for video therapy called Simple Practice, which is HIPPA compliant.

How does it work?

Once you decide to start counseling you will have access to a client portal in Simple Practice. You will then receive an email 24 hours before your appointment with a link to the conference call. You just need to click on the link and you will be connected to your therapist. Please be sure you are in a quite, comfortable, confidential space with a strong, secure internet connection to get the most out of your appointment.

Pros and Cons of Video Therapy?

Online video counseling has some benefits and drawbacks. The benefits are that you can continue to access mental health services even when not physically in the same location as your therapist, you will not need to come to an office, and you can engage in therapy in a space you are most comfortable with. However, there are some drawbacks to be aware of including technological issues and less control over confidentiality if there are people in the same location as you.
